Lebanon Appeal on World Food Day

In the midst of war, thousands are displaced, wounded and hungry.

Since 2013, JRS Lebanon has assisted displaced families through home visits, accompaniment, education and the distribution of emergency aid. Lebanon currently hosts more than one million Syrians – one of the largest refugee populations in the world as well as Palestinians, Sudanese and other refugee groups.

Formal reception camps do not exist in the country, so most live in informal settlements or in urban areas. In the last few years, a severe economic crisis has worsened living conditions among local and refugee communities.

War and violence is tearing lives apart even further.

Israel’s airstrikes and military attacks in Lebanon have killed hundreds of people, wounded thousands more and caused large-scale destruction. More than 1.2 million people have been forced to flee their homes.

Like in Gaza, families are in desperate need of food and shelter.

Fr. Daniel Corrou, JRS MENA Regional Director based in Lebanon’s capital Beirut, is so grateful for the outpouring of concern from friends around the world:

“It is with your support, your encouragement, your solidarity that we are able to provide the essential services that are needed in the midst of a war.”

Today, on #WorldFoodDay you can help provide displaced families with food kits, hygiene items and basic non-food items such a temporary mattresses and blankets.
