Education programmes in Adjumani, which is close to the border with South Sudan, provide children living in the refugee settlement with schooling. Access to education is vital for these children to help them to create a future for themselves. It can also be a tool to enable them to escape the trauma of their past, which for many who were caught up in the civil war in South Sudan involved being recruited by armed gangs.

JRS Kampala

Funding from our donors Electric Aid provided for the construction of drainable latrines for the JRS compound in Kampala which provides training and support for refugees, asylum seekers and the most vulnerable host community members. During the Covid-19 crisis, refugee women who were trained as seamstresses were employed to produce reusable facemasks to distribute to the community. This gave them an income at a time when lockdown measures left many in Uganda without the means to earn money or feed their families.
